CASIO G-SHOCK TEAMS UP WITH ADULT SWIM FOR FIRST-TIME COLLABORATION
Limited Edition Co-Branded Timepiece Fuses G-Shock Technology with Iconic Characters from Aqua Teen Hunger Force
DOVER, NJ, OCTOBER 22, 2010 - Adding a bit of absurdist humor to the most recognizable G-Shock silhouette, Casio G-Shock joins forces with Adult Swim in a co-branded partnership that will bring the cult classic Aqua Teen Hunger Force to the watch maker’s DW6900AS-8 model. Uniting dedicated fans of both franchises, the G-Shock X Adult Swim X Aqua Teen Hunger Force timepiece fuses G-Shock toughness and technology with the sensibility and style that has become synonymous with the late night television network.
Cloaked in a white case with hot pink and black accents, the DW6900AS-8 pays tribute to the infamous Aqua Teen Hunger Force team made up of three human-sized food products - Meatwad, Frylock and Master Shake, and, with one press of a button, the watch face summons the iconic Ignignokt face. The watches were designed and created by Adult Swim designers Brandon Lively and Jacob Escobedo who derived inspiration from the Aqua Teen Volume 6 DVD cover.
“In this relationship with G-Shock, this is our first born. Hopefully, our next collaboration will result in sextuplets. We ultimately want a television show about raising sextuplet watches together,” said Escobedo. “When we approached the design of the watch, we started with the character icons that were originally designed for the cover of the Aqua Teen Volume 6 DVD and simplified the characters down to basic shapes and made a pattern that wraps around the band. The light up feature in G-Shock watches were a big sell for us; we’ve always wanted to make a watch with a light up Mooninite.”
As with every G-Shock timepiece, performance and durability are the foundations; the DW6900AS-8 features include shock resistance, water resistance to an incredible 200 meters, flash alert, multi-function alarm, countdown timer, 1/100 second stopwatch and 12/24 hour formats.
“G-Shock is pleased to partner with the unexpected,” said Shigenori Itoh, Vice President of Casio’s Timepiece Division. “The G-Shock X Adult Swim X Aqua Teen Hunger Force watch captures our commitment to offer our consumers collaborations with culturally relevant brands.”
Produced in a limited quantity, the DW6900AS-8 timepiece will feature a custom backcase engraving. Available in select stores and through the Adult Swim shop (www.adultswimshop.com) in October 2010, the G-Shock x Adult Swim x Aqua Teen Hunger Force watch retails for $200. About Aqua Teen Hunger Force
Aqua Teen Hunger Force is created by Matt Maiellaro (12 oz. Mouse) and Dave Willis (Squidbillies) and follows the strange everyday lives of three human-sized food products living in New Jersey. Although barely noticeable, the title of the series has absolutely nothing to do with the show. So, it can be ignored. The three lead characters consider themselves crime fighters, but the truth is they never fight crime. Otherwise, it’s a fast-paced, action-adventure, comedy-drama with stunning artwork, music, special effects and voice-overs. And those end credits aren’t too shabby either. The series recently celebrated the broadcast of its 100th episode. Aqua Teen Hunger Force is the epic tale of Frylock, Master Shake and Meatwad, three human-sized food products looking for acceptance, friendship and yes, even love, in the wilds of New Jersey. The rest of the time, they do things like try to figure out ways to make money or hang out in their neighbor Carl’s above-ground swimming pool, and stuff like that. In addition to its impressive on-air presence, Aqua Teen Hunger Force is a hit franchise that has taken over with episodic DVDs, apparel, accessories, CDs and a hit theatrical film. Fans can lounge in a Meatwad Beanbag Chair, cuddle with an Aqua Teen Hunger Force blanket, wear Mooninite Critter Pants, and much more.
