Frequently Asked Questions - Timepieces

What is a tachymeter?
The tachymeter is used in the stopwatch mode to measure speed.  Two things are needed to be able to judge this.  First, the person must be traveling 60 miles or kilometers per hour.  Second, there must be a way to judge how far a mile or kilometer is.  Mile markers on a highway are a good example.
Start the stopwatch when you pass a mile marker.  The seconds hand starts moving, and as it is going around it is pointing at the numbers on the bezel.  If you were to pass the next mile marker and stop the stopwatch, the number that is being pointed at would be the speed that you are traveling.

How do I find GMT differential, longitude, and latitude for my area?
The GMT differential depends on the time zone where you live, along with the status of Daylight Saving Time. For example, in the Eastern Time zone, the GMT differential would be -5 during standard time, or -4 during Daylight Saving Time.
An atlas should give information on longitude and latitude for your area. You can also check with a Web site that provides maps, as they may also have longitude and latitude information. Here is one site that offers GMT differential, longitude, and latitude for many US locations:

My watch keeps showing different screens, and none of the features work.
This is a demo mode for use in the store.  Hold in the mode button, usually the lower left button until the watch beeps or the screens stop flipping.

How does the tide graph function work?
Input the longitude and the watch calibrates when the moon is over the longitude (moon up). Input the difference from moon up until the next high tide. This is the lunitidal interval. This is used to calculate the time of tides.

What is Ion Plating on the Watch Bands?
A method of applying corrosion-resistant metal coatings. Ion plating is one of the most advanced surface finishing processes available. In traditional processes, the coating on the surface of the case or band can be rubbed off easily. Ion plating makes the plating more durable, more wear resistant, and also has a higher brightness. Ion plating involves adding of a titanium nitride layer.
