G-SHOCK launches the "Recrystallized" series in deep-hardened stainless steel

40th anniversaryinspired by absolute hardness

Norderstedt, 15 March 2023 — As the latest addition to the commemorative 40th anniversary models, G-SHOCK today introduces the "Recrystallized" series. The new GMW-B5000PS-1ER and GMW-B5000PG-9ER stand out on account of their absolute toughness, as they are manufactured from stainless steel using a deep-layer hardening process*.

*This process creates a hard coating by infusing gas into the steel surface, hardening the material itself rather than coating it to harden the outside.

The G-SHOCK watches for the 40th anniversary: GMW-B5000PG, DW-5040PG, GMW-B5000PS

The design of the new models is based on the full-metal GMW-B5000D, which is modelled after the iconic octagonal shape of the very first G-SHOCK, the DW-5000C. In honour of the tough brand's 40th birthday, extremely hard stainless steel was used for the outer components, in the bezel and strap — for even more absolute toughness.

For 40 years, G-SHOCK has been continuously developing its technologies. The new deep hardening process especially for stainless steel marks a new milestone, since it makes the material three times harder than ordinary stainless steel. On top of that, recrystallisation adds another design element: A crystal pattern on a smooth matte texture that gives the impression of scattered metal shards. Each individual component features a unique crystalline grain that provides subtle differences in pattern, colour and lustre for each model.

The silver GMW-B5000PS-1ER and the gold ion-plated GMW-B5000PG-9ER both feature the iconic hallmarks — the 40th anniversary logo on the caseback, the "SINCE 1983" lettering on the dial, and a star symbol on the fashion button on the lower left side of the case.

Complementing the two GMWs is the DW-5040PG-1ER, whose dial features "PROJECT TEAM 'Tough'" lettering — the name of the team involved in the development of the very first G-SHOCK. In this reissue of the very first G-SHOCK design, the case back, buckle, strap loop and other metal parts have been treated with the deep hardening process. Plastics from sustainable biomass are used for the bezel and strap.

About G-SHOCK

G-SHOCK was born from the idea and desire to create an indestructible watch. CASIO's engineers followed the "Triple 10" concept, which included making sure the watch could survive a 10-meter drop, withstand 10 bars of water pressure, and last 10 years on a single battery. Since its launch in 1983, G-SHOCK has stuck to this concept and continued to perfect the G-SHOCK models through development. The cult brand made a name for itself worldwide in the fields of fashion, sports and music. As a testament to this success, G-SHOCK is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
