G-SHOCK launches the new G-SQUAD with heart rate monitor in the iconic shape of the original

Supports multiple training activities, from running to gym workouts

Norderstedt, 26 April 2023 — G-SHOCK launches the latest addition to its sporty G-SQUAD line, which pays homage to the very first G-SHOCK. The five new DW-H5600 watches have the iconic shape of the DW-5000C and are equipped with an optical sensor to measure heart rate.

The new G-SQUAD DW-H5600 with heart rate monitor

The first G-SHOCK was developed in 1983 with the aim of designing a watch that would not break even if dropped. Since then, the functions, construction and design of the G-SHOCK have been constantly optimized, with a focus on shock resistance. The iconic shape of the very first model has been passed on to subsequent generations, continuously developed and enhanced with the most advanced functions available in each era.

The new DW-H5600 timepieces come in the design of the very first G-SHOCK and have special functions for multiple sports. With a focus on the ever-growing health and fitness trend, G-SQUADs support activities such as running, walking, fitness training and interval training. The watches are equipped with an optical sensor and an accelerometer to measure heart rate and calories burned, among other things. Connected to the smartphone via Bluetooth, the GPS from the mobile device is used to measure the distance. Exercise analysis uses algorithms from Polar Electro Oy, an industry pioneer that has been perfecting the art of personalized fitness, sports and health advice for nearly 50 years, to provide analysis on training and sleep based on recorded data.

G-SHOCK continuously meets the demands of their target groups, and the G-SQUAD DW-H5600 was developed for all fitness fans who want a smart companion for their workout on their wrist.

Sensors for activity tracking

The case back is equipped with an optical sensor that measures heart rate by emitting LED light to track changes in blood flow. The watch also has an accelerometer that counts steps. For even more accurate distance measurement, the watch can be paired with a smartphone GPS to fine-tune the data collected by the accelerometer.

Training analysis and sleep tracking with algorithms from Polar Electro Oy

The watch measures the load on the heart and lungs depending on the training time and intensity, analyses the ratio of energy consumed separately for carbohydrates, proteins and fats, and performs sleep monitoring. This data analysis uses algorithms from Polar Electro Oy, a company with high expertise in heart rate-based training analysis.

About G-SHOCK

G-SHOCK was born from the idea and desire to create an indestructible watch. CASIO's engineers followed the "Triple 10" concept, which included making sure the watch could survive a 10-meter drop, withstand 10 bars of water pressure, and last 10 years on a single battery. Since its launch in 1983, G-SHOCK has stuck to this concept and continued to perfect the G-SHOCK models through development. The cult brand made a name for itself worldwide in the fields of fashion, sports and music. As a testament to this success, G-SHOCK is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
