Why does ink ribbon seem to be used up between printings?
A slack ink ribbon can become entangled in the drive mechanism and cause malfunction of the CW-50/CW-75. Because of this, the CW-50/CW-75 performs an operation designed to take up slack in the rink ribbon whenever you turn it on, install a new ink ribbon, etc. This operation causes some ink ribbon to be used up each time it is performed. Also, the CW-50/CW-75 performs an operation to find out if the print head is at the correct position before starting a print operation. This operation also causes the ink ribbon to be advanced.
