July 11, 2025

Teacher training using scientific calculators (Egypt)

Tokyo, July 11, 2025 — Casio Computer Co., Ltd., announced today that its mathematics education activities in the Republic of Indonesia and the Arab Republic of Egypt have been selected for participation in the MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, CULTURE, SPORTS, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY -JAPAN- 2025 EDU-Port Japan (Introduction of Japanese-style Education Using the Public-Private Collaborative Platform) Supported Project. The activities have been selected for three consecutive terms since July 2021 in Indonesia and two consecutive terms since January 2024 in Egypt. Going forward, Casio will collaborate with the ministries of education and educational professionals in these two countries to develop mathematics lessons utilizing scientific calculators, provide teacher training, and conduct pilot classes to support learning in schools.

Guided by the Casio Purpose — “Through the power to put wonder at hand, bring new levels of joy to lives one by one” — Casio delivers products and services that transform society. In the field of education, Casio works to improve the school learning environment in countries around the world and conducts ongoing GAKUHAN activities focused on teacher training and development of educational materials. The aim of these activities is to build “a world where anyone can find learning enjoyable” by making the most of scientific calculators.

EDU-Port Japan Supported Project is a public-private initiative to introduce Japanese-style education overseas. Casio GAKUHAN activities in Indonesia and Egypt were selected as supported projects in recognition of their effectiveness.

■Key Initiatives in Indonesia
Educational activities in Indonesia emphasize the development of human resources capable of thinking and learning proactively. Under the project that has just been selected, Casio aims to expand inquiry-based mathematics lessons to meet this goal using educational material packages that include scientific calculators. In addition to working on improvements in lesson preparation and educational materials, Casio will select 10 potential model schools with a target of 10 schools and provide teacher training and follow up support after lessons.

■Key Initiatives in Egypt
In Egypt, based on the teacher training implemented in the first project, Casio will collaborate with Egypt-Japan Schools (EJSs) in addition to private schools in this project and work to train teachers who will be responsible for inquiry-based mathematics lessons. Casio will provide an integrated program from training through support for learning retention to ultimately build a system in which students can study proactively utilizing scientific calculators. Going forward, the plan is to provide training for approximately 50 junior high school teachers at all the EJSs.

Casio remains committed to enhancing educational quality worldwide and will continue to cooperate with education ministries and professionals to support students by leveraging scientific calculators to increase their capacity for proactive learning and thinking.
