Casio Signs MOU with Egyptian Ministry of Education and Technical Education to Enhance Mathematics Education

Aiming to Effectively Utilize Scientific Calculators in Public Secondary Schools under the New Curriculum

Tokyo, August 21, 2025 — Casio Computer Co., Ltd. announced today that the company has agreed to work with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education of the Arab Republic of Egypt on a mathematics education project in Egypt. The initiative aims to advance mathematics education through the effective utilization of scientific calculators in public secondary schools under the new curriculum. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed to this effect on August 19th in the presence of Mr. Mohamed Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education of the Arab Republic of Egypt and Mr. Shigeru Watanabe, Managing Director, CASIO Middle East and Africa FZE.

In the area of mathematics education, the company has actively pursued its GAKUHAN educational activities since the 1990s, working to promote the use of scientific calculators in schools worldwide and contribute to educational development by providing teacher training and developing teaching materials.

Casio has been working with Egypt’s Ministry of Education and Technical Education since 2018 to run the GAKUHAN program, providing training for some 20,000 secondary school mathematics teachers. In recognition of these activities, the program has been selected by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as an EDU-Port Japan Supported Project since December 2023.

Egypt established a sustainable development strategy, Egypt Vision 2030, in 2016 and is working to transform its educational environment. Under this MOU with Egypt’s Ministry of Education and Technical Education, Casio will provide training using scientific calculators for  teachers at public secondary schools in the Cairo Governorate in order to contribute to the wave of education reform set out in Egypt Vision 2030. Casio will focus on the professional development of mathematics teachers seeking to provide know-how and teaching materials for effectively incorporating scientific calculators into classes. To this end, the company will develop teaching materials that incorporate the use of scientific calculators in solving real-life problems in order to support joint training programs and inquiry-based learning.

Working closely with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education, Casio will contribute to advancements in mathematics education in Egypt to foster critical thinking and proactive learning skills by working with local educators to develop teacher training and teaching materials.

About the EDU-Port Japan Supported Project
EDU-Port Japan Supported Project is a “public-private, nationwide” initiative to proactively introduce Japanese-style education overseas by providing a platform on which the public and private sectors collaborate in achieving this objective.

During the first phase of “Project for Introduction of Japanese-style Education Using Public-Private collaborative Platforms (EDU-Port Japan 1.0)” (2016-2020), a variety of pilot projects were implemented in a total of 36 countries and regions. The “Research Project for Promoting Japanese-style Education Amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic (EDU-Port Japan 2.0)” began in 2021.

Casio has been selected for participation in supported projects under the MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, CULTURE, SPORTS, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY -JAPAN- 2025 EDU-Port Japan.
