Privia's Beautiful Design and Abundant Features are Perfect for Families!
Calla Haynes built up a lot of experience working for a top maison, but in 2016, she launched Calla, a babouche brand that upcycles traditional Moroccan rugs. She lives in a stylish apartment situated in the quiet neighborhood of Pantin, a Parisian suburb, with her music-loving husband and five-year-old daughter.
"After working for such a long time in the fashion industry and seeing first hand the waste that takes place there, I wanted to create a sustainable brand. I started by collecting surplus fabrics from luxury brands and sending them to a Moroccan workshop that uses traditional methods of craftmanship to produce original rugs. After that, I started creating colorful, one-of-a-kind babouches (traditional Moroccan footwear) made from vintage Moroccan rugs."
Calla lives in a spacious apartment that has a nomadic vibe. She has a calm and friendly way of speaking, "To keep my creative juices flowing, I try to surround myself with things that appeal to my artistic side. I live in Pantin, a quiet area that has lots of nature, so my young daughter can enjoy playing outdoors. I find my work rewarding, but time with family is also very important to me. We aim to have a good work-life balance, and lead a lifestyle that is as fulfilling as possible."
During her spare time, Calla tries to get away from work and relax with activities such as yoga or painting. "I also spend a lot of time enjoying music. I took piano lessons from an early age, and when I was a teenager I dreamed of being in a rock band, so I also started practicing the guitar and drums. Music has always been an important part of my life. It helps me to process my emotions and achieve a feeling of calm. I also enjoy the feelings of nostalgia that music gives me."
When she first learned about the Privia, Calla felt that it was the exact piano she'd been waiting for. "It has a sleek design that looks great no matter what way you look at it. Even when it's not being used, it's a beautiful ornament to have. It's a perfect fit for my home, which has an industrial look thanks to the wood grain. Utilizing this type of design concept in this way with a musical instrument is a cool approach that I've never seen before."
Calla adds that the Privia's excellent features are key to her music loving family being able to feel the joy of music. "My husband DJ’s from time to time and he loves electronic instruments like drum machines and synthesizers, so he was really looking forward to trying out the Privia. I'm sure he's excited about using the recording as well as all the other features. My daughter also plans to take piano lessons, so hopefully the whole family will have fun with it together."
