Privia Calls Out to Me: Making the Most of My Personal Time

Alex Hayano is a prop stylist who specializes in decorating and curating spaces and lives with her pet dog in Tokyo. While studying stage costumes in college, Alex began her career initially in the fashion industry.
"During my journey as a stylist, I started feeling the urge to explore my work via a slightly different creative field. That's when I decided to transition into becoming a props stylist. I wanted to explore the idea of self-contained creativity that involves just myself, objects, and a camera," shares Alex. This has allowed her to find genuine joy in designing spaces by playing with just colors, light, and shadows.

Given the nature of her profession, Alex possesses a strong affinity for interior design, which is clear by the array of carefully selected items that decorate his home. "I love incorporating various colors into my home. The predominant color scheme in my space is red," she mentions.

She consciously chose a home that is located in her favorite neighborhood, a slightly suburban area within Tokyo that is ideal for living with her dog. "There's a large park nearby and despite having moved several times, I’ve always loved this neighborhood and sharing my house here with my dog, Yanyan," she reveals.

Alex's mornings typically kick off with desk work. "My routine involves jotting down the day's schedule while enjoying a cup of coffee. It helps me organize my thoughts and tasks for the day, including things I'm passionate about or particularly need to accomplish. I was influenced by my sister, who learned to play the piano from a young age, and I still play classical music at home whenever I need to concentrate. After work, I like to unwind by playing my Privia for just ten minutes... I have a wide range of interests and for me, a fulfilling lifestyle means experiencing a feeling of freedom within the fabric of daily life! I believe I've managed to achiev that," she reflects.

For Alex the natural choice of color for her Privia was red. She confesses it was love at first sight. "I was immediately drawn to its vibrant red hue," she recalls. "Despite its classic roots, I was pleasantly surprised to discover this exquisite color and I immediately fell in love with it. Its compact size, which fits snugly into my home is also a plus. Any worries I had about fitting a piano into my home were quickly resolved thanks to Privia. I also really wanted a piano stand that complemented my interior, so I took matters into my own hands and crafted one myself through DIY! I'm happy to say that I’m very satisfied with the result."

Alex revels in being in an environment where music is always within touching distance, allowing her to play freely whenever the mood takes her. "Returning home to my dog Yanyan and my Privia... it makes me feel good to know that I’m surrounded with things that bring me joy. Despite its compact size which helps to keep the room feeling cluttered, it exudes a distinct presence which almost calls to me to play it. Those moments when I lose myself in playing the piano give me a sense of rejuvenation and are the best part of my personal time," she concludes.
