Created to mark the 30th anniversary of MR-G, the flagship line of the G-SHOCK brand, the MRG-B5000SA captures the extraordinary beauty of the “super blue” ice caves found in Iceland’s largest glacier. Seen only by those who venture into this remote polar landscape, the cave’s mysterious glow is recreated in a rich interplay of blue tones. The world of “super blue,” created by the pure glacial ice, comes to life with two large 2-carat blue sapphires set into the bezel. Inspired by the iconic octagonal G-SHOCK form, each gemstone is cut with an original eight-facet design and meticulously polished to deliver a bold, solid presence while revealing brilliant gleams from every angle. These lab-grown blue sapphires offer a level of quality control difficult to achieve with natural gemstones. Grown as ingots over the course of several months, only the sections with exceptional colour consistency, clarity, and minimal inclusions are carefully selected. Blue arc ion plating (AIP) on the bezel, blue ion plating (IP) on the suspension parts, and blue vapor deposition on the sapphire crystal showcase nuanced hues of blue across the exterior, further enhancing the brilliance of the sapphires. Built on the MRG-B5000, the archetype of MR-G toughness, the MRG-B5000SA embodies the uncompromising engineering and craftsmanship that MR-G timepieces are known for. The multi-piece bezel construction allows every component to be separately polished to an exceptional finish. High-hardness materials further ensure the exceptional shock resistance expected of MR-G timepieces, with COBARION used for the top bezel and Ti64 titanium for the case, buttons, and other exterior components. The Multi-Guard Structure, combining metal and shock-absorbing components, has been specially refined for this timepiece, providing outstanding protection for the module and the delicate blue sapphires. In an edition limited to just 500 pieces worldwide, each watch is individually numbered and engraved with the “MR-G 30TH” anniversary logo on the case back.
