The city of Hamburg, located in the north of Germany, is renowned as one of Europe’s largest port cities. It boasts a lively mix of international trade, culture, and music. It’s here in Hamburg that stage designer Lea Kissing has made her creative base of operations.
“I often travel a lot for my work,” Lea shares, “but when I’m in Hamburg, I spend most of my time in my studio. The city is full of galleries, ateliers, and hidden corners to explore. Many of my neighbors in the surrounding area are artists, too.”
Being surrounded by art has been part of Lea’s life since her early childhood.
“My mother worked in the theater, so when I was little I spent a lot of time backstage. I used to help out or just watch behind the scenes, and so I came to love that special feeling of tension in the air. It then felt natural to choose stage design as my path in life.”
Lea’s private life is equally creative at home. She makes her spacious apartment available to friends, turning it into both a living space as well as a shared studio.
“I love the large, open rooms. I use the space to cook together with friends and also use it as workspaces. Most of the furniture is handmade and the walls are decorated with artwork created by friends.”
Among the many things that carry special meaning for Lea in her living space, the red Privia piano particularly stands out. “What I really like about the Privia is the compact size. My apartment is on the fourth floor, so easily being able to move it is a big help. Additionally, the minimalist design and color look fantastic and add a great accent to the living room.”
Lea enjoyed playing various instruments as a teenager, but the piano was always her favorite.
“I used to practice on an old white piano that was slightly out of tune,” she laughs. “I had to let it go of it eventually, which made me really sad. However, I always wanted to take up playing again, so I was really happy when I discovered the Privia.”
Now that Lea has returned to playing the piano she remembers how she used to enjoy not just listening to music, but trying to play along.
“After work or at the end of a busy day, I like to make time for myself and unwind. Creating quiet, relaxing moments like this that are just for me is very important and along with the Privia, I’d love to continue to keep this as a part of my daily life.”
